Koh Kong Best Value Hotels and Guesthouses

Choosing where to stay in Koh Kong depends on what you are looking for in terms of location and price. If you are looking for a convenient place to stay, there are lots of accommodation options in the centre of town, with most guesthouses and hotels around 500 meters from the central roundabout. Even the most expensive place in town is still very reasonable, and you’ll easily get an air-con double room for around USD10.

In town

Paddy’s Guesthouse (Chicken Farm Road, double room with fan from USD6), is a popular choice with backpackers looking for a chilled out place to meet other travellers and enjoy a game of pool. There’s also Sunny Guesthouse if you are on a budget; the rooms are good value with both air-con and TV, and they have an outdoor pool.

For those with a slightly bigger budget, both The Koh Kong City Hotel and The Asian Hotel (both on Street 1, double rooms from USD15) offer clean, comfortable rooms at a competitive price. Koh Kong City is probably the better of the two, as it has a more modern feel and open views of the river.

Outside town

If convenience isn’t key, then the more interesting accommodation options are found outside town, in the beautiful surrounding countryside. There’s something for everyone here price-wise, from budget bungalows to luxury riverside glamping.

Oasis Bungalow Resort (Smach Mean Chey, double bungalows from USD30) is the perfect option for backpackers and low budget travellers. It’s the perfect getaway from the city, with a secluded location and a stunning outdoor infinity pool. There’s also a restaurant, gym and outdoor bird aviary.

Midrange options include The Neptune River Bungalows (Tatai River, double bungalows from USD35) and Thmorda Garden Riverside Resort (Paklong Commune, double rooms from USD35). The latter has gorgeous views of the river, whilst the former is ecofriendly and well known for running some of the best tours in town.

For an authentic nature retreat, visitors should head to Rainbow Lodge (Tatai Commune, double rooms from USD80). This beautiful resort is nestled away in the jungle and can only be reached by boat, and staying here really does feel like escaping reality. The open-air terrace is particularly lovely, and you could easily spend hours sat drinking wine and watching the wildlife around you. There’s plenty to keep you occupied during your stay here, and you simply must book a tour with their in-house trekking guide, Gerard Chartier. He is extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for jungle wildlife is infectious. After a long day trekking, you can then relax with a massage from their in-house masseuse, followed by some yoga. Room prices include full board, and the food is delicious and varied.

Finally, if you are looking for a truly unique experience, stay at one of the first eco-resorts in Cambodia, 4 Rivers Floating Lodge (Tatai River, double tent from USD220). This is glamping at its finest, with 12 beautiful canvas tents arranged on a floating marina, surrounded by water and hills. The price may seem slightly extortionate, but you’ll soon see the resort’s worth. The tents are luxuriously decorated, and each has its own deck with sun loungers.

There are also plenty of excursions to keep you busy, including treks, boat trips, and kayaking. Whilst it may not be a budget choice, there really is no other place like it in Cambodia, so even if you just stay here one night before heading back to Koh Kong, you won’t regret it!
