Kampot to Host Sea Festival in December

The annual Sea Festival will be held in Kampot province, Cambodia, in December, from 20th till 22th, the Ministry of Tourism announced last week.

The three-day event is held once a year in one of the four coastal provinces of Cambodia – Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong and Sihanoukville – on a rotating basis. This year marks the eighth edition of the festival.

The aim of the festival is to draw visitors' attention to the four provinces through showcasing its amazing nature, unique culture and delicious seafood. The event also promotes the coastal areas as a destination for investment with huge development potential.

About 500,000 visitors, both domestic and international, are expected to visit the festival where local businesses will present their products and services targeted at tourists.

Last year, the festival took place in Koh Kong province with about 180,000 tourists having visited the event. The next year Sihanoukville is expected to host the Sea Festival.

Kampot, the province of durian, pepper and seafood, previously the primary port of Cambodia, the province is now well-known for its relaxing riverside setting and ever evolving culinary scene. Whilst not the most beautiful town in Cambodia, the dilapidated colonial architecture has its own unique charm and visitors will enjoy wandering its streets. It makes an excellent base to explore the stunning Bokor National Park, and the river offers plenty of opportunity for watersports and boat cruises in the evening.
