Siem Reap to Phnom Penh Destination Reviews

Not the newest of buses, but very comfortable regardless. Stopped twice for comfort breaks and once for lunch break. Arrived ahead of time.

The driver was sullen and uncommunicative. He had absolutely no effort to communicate. As an example: when we stopped for lunch, he pulled over, got out and walked off ( to buy his lunch) he said nothing at all. never explained what was happening, never gave us a heads up that we had a 30 minute stop. He just got out, walked off and left a bus full of puzzled and confused people

Comfortable bus and nice staff. The bus even had a plug socket which would take my 3-pin British plug. However, the website said the journey would only take 4.5 hours. This was unrealistic since most companies say 5.5 hours for the same journey, and this bus was much slower than other companies because it stopped a lot more times. During the first half of the journey, we stopped about every 15 minutes to pick up passengers or pick up things for delivery. Because of this, the journey took about 7 hours.

The trip was very comfortable and we were looked after well by our steward. We felt safe with our driver. The service was punctual and we had free wifi all but the last couple of hours of the journey.

The driver was unfortunately hitting the breaks super suddenly very often and then speeding afterwards. Made me nauseous and unable to fall asleep. The bus seats were hard and not the most comfortable, I had back pain after a few hours. The bus overall was modern and clean, the AC worked very well too. We had a 30min break for lunch and another break later for the bathroom, so no complaints there :))

It was really good, professional, well driven, loads of leg room and enough stops. Cold water and snack given. I was so surprised. Would highly recommend

We were severely delayed and ended up being dropped off at a completely different station. We also had to spend another $7 on a taxi, even though the hotel was actually within walking distance of the bus station.

Is the water in Phnom Penh safe?

Tap water in Phnom Penh is generally not considered safe for drinking. Local authorities and health experts recommend using bottled water for drinking and cooking. Bottled water is widely available throughout the city and is relatively inexpensive.

For those staying longer, using a water filtration system is also an option to ensure safe drinking water. Avoid consuming ice in drinks from street vendors unless you're certain of the water source.

How many tourists visit Phnom Penh each year?

Phnom Penh receives approximately 2 million international tourists annually. This figure can vary year by year due to global travel trends and local events. The city attracts visitors with its historical sites, such as the Royal Palace and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Peak tourist season typically occurs from November to February, when the weather is cooler and drier.

Why Siem Reap is better than Phnom Penh?

Siem Reap is often preferred for its proximity to Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which attracts visitors interested in historical sites and ancient temples. Transportation within Siem Reap is convenient, with tuk-tuks being a popular and affordable option (approximately 10,000 KHR or $2.50 for short rides). Dining options range from local Khmer cuisine to international dishes, with meals typically costing between 15,000-40,000 KHR ($3.75-$10).

While Phnom Penh offers cultural experiences like the Royal Palace and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Siem Reap's focus on ancient history and laid-back charm makes it a unique destination for travelers. Tap water is not safe to drink in Siem Reap, so bottled water is recommended.
