Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City Destination Reviews

Bus did not look like pictures, beds were much tinier, bus also broke down an hour into trip and we were stuck in 37 degree heat for an hour and a half until they sent another bus, this ended up with us not having access to a bathroom for 5 hours in very hot weather

The experience as a solo woman traveler was really good! I felt super safe. The only recommendation I would have as since it’s a shorter trip and sleep is limited. More info on the immigration process would’ve been helpful, as after the first stop of getting a stamp I thought that was it and got ready to sleep again. If I knew we were leaving the bus and taking our stuff off 2 minutes later I would’ve been more prepared. Instead of just giving direction, a rundown of the process for first timers would be super helpful especially since people will be groggy.

Vet is becoming my preferred bus from HCMC to PP. The added snacks and coffee on the bus + their help at the border if customs get "tricky" has made me decide I'll likely keep using these guys form comfort on this long journey.

I was told to be there before 30 minutes but we were allowed to bored 3 minutes before departure. It went to another stop to wait for passengers and it was almost 30 mins. I think the trip could be 5 hrs and 30 minutes if the other passengers were on time. The vehicle is quite warm, air conditioning is not good. It gets really hot at times.

An unacceptable service for a company claiming to be a 'limousine' service. You expect international standards of comfort and professionalism. Instead, we traveled with a driver who demonstrated inappropriate behavior (burping throughout the entire trip) and extremely dangerous driving, handling up to two cell phones simultaneously. The total lack of basic manners and safety makes this company one to absolutely avoid.

All the staff are accustomed to dealing with tourists. Even though I don't speak English, they used body language to explain things to me, which made my border crossing from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City a smooth and comfortable experience.

Is it safe to drink coffee in Ho Chi Minh City?

Drinking coffee in Ho Chi Minh City is generally safe. Coffee is usually brewed with boiling water, which eliminates potential contaminants. However, when it comes to tap water, it is advisable to avoid drinking it directly. Local authorities recommend using bottled water, which is widely available, or opting for filtered water. This ensures that your coffee and other beverages are prepared safely.

When purchasing bottled water, a typical 500 ml bottle costs around 5,000 VND ($0.20). For a local coffee experience, try Vietnamese iced coffee (Ca Phe Sua Da) at cafes, with prices ranging from 15,000 to 40,000 VND ($0.60 to $1.70), depending on the venue.

Do Ho Chi Minh City taxis accept cards?

Typical fare for short distances within the city center ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 VND ($2 to $4). For more reliable service, consider using ride-hailing apps like Grab, which allow payment through credit card linked to the app.

Is Ho Chi Minh City better at night or day?

Ho Chi Minh City offers unique experiences both day and night. During the day, explore historic sites like the War Remnants Museum and the Reunification Palace. Visit bustling markets such as Ben Thanh Market for souvenirs and local snacks.

At night, the city comes alive with vibrant street food stalls and lively bars in areas like Bui Vien Street. For a scenic view, consider a dinner cruise on the Saigon River.

Public transportation includes buses and the growing metro system, but taxis and ride-sharing services like Grab are convenient options. Prices for meals range from 50,000 to 200,000 VND ($2-$8). Tap water is not recommended for drinking; opt for bottled water.
