We understand that the tickets were non refundable, but Sri Lanka experienced a Cyclone and our trip was cancelled due to the railway line washing away. 12Go refused to give a refund and kept sending mails saying that the trip isnt cancelled. We visited the railway and they said no trains are able to leave the station. 12go refunded us the smallest and most pointless amount. Absolutely shocking. We didnt cancel because we wanted to. It was a natural disaster. We should get a FULL refund. Sri Lanka railways agreed that they should refund all passengers.

The train was running 2 hrs behind, the only help was the RDMNS.LK app. So I at least knew it was running behind before going to the station. The instructions on the pdf were that we needed to collect the ticket from the station but the m-ticket with the qr code is all we needed and we had already printed this out beforehand. No need to be super early, 15-20 mins is plenty if you already have your ticket. Colombo fort station has a handy tourist office to help foreigners navigate the system. The train was decent, a bit bumpy and not the cleanest but decent for the price. Inspectors do their checks which is good and helpful.
