The Bus and the Transfer itselves were good but we got told that the visa costs 40$ and we should pay the money to the tour Manager when in fact it costs 30$. We didn’t understand why we should pay 10$ more.

Everything was going well, they left on time and were nice enough to bring us some croissants for a snack. The lady who collected our passports charged us $40USD per person for the border crossing, which was never communicated online or in the email. The border crossing is $30USD so we were not sure why we were charged an additional $10USD since we had done all of our Visa paperwork ourselves ahead of time. I would double check with the company prior to booking as this was an unexpected upcharge that was not clearly stated.

Buses often leave in the late evening and arrive early morning. Choose well-rated companies for safety and comfort, and expect to pay around 300,000 VND ($12) for a bus ticket.

Crossing the border can be time-consuming, so ensure all necessary visas and documentation are prepared in advance. Some buses assist with the border crossing process, which can be helpful.

What are the special days in Phnom Penh?

Key special days include:

  • Khmer New Year: Celebrated in mid-April, marking the end of the harvest season. Families gather for traditional games and ceremonies.
  • Pchum Ben: A 15-day Buddhist festival occurring in September or October, honoring ancestors with offerings at pagodas.
  • Independence Day: Held on November 9th, commemorating Cambodia's independence from France in 1953, featuring parades and fireworks.

  • Royal Ploughing Ceremony: Acknowledges the start of the rice-growing season, usually in May, with a symbolic plowing ritual.

During these events, expect crowded streets and potential transportation delays. It is advisable to book accommodations and transport in advance.

Alternatively, ride-hailing apps like Grab are available for more convenience. Comfortable walking shoes and staying hydrated are recommended, as the weather can be hot and humid.
