New Vientiane mall schedules grand opening

The constructor of the brand new lifestyle mall in the capital of Laos says the facility will stage its grand opening ceremony on 28 March. Oulathay Santikhongkha is the manager of Krittaphong Group and he told media sources that all construction work at the Vientiane Centre was complete and just the final touches needed to be added prior to the opening.

The mall is located on a 13-acre plot of land in the North Nongchan District of Vientiane. The US$120 cost of the structure was jointly shared by Chinese and Laotian investors and director Santikhongkha says it will be an integral part of commerce and trade in Laos.

He continued by saying the Vientiane Centre houses brand-name outlets, a five-star hotel, a cinema, entertainment establishments including karaoke parlours and convention facilities. He claimed that the mall would offer everything that malls in the Thai capital of Bangkok do.

The designer outlets in the mall are reported to be a mix of Europe’s finest along with speciality brands from countries such as South Korea and Thailand. Unnamed city officials in Vientiane say if the Vientiane Centre is successful it could lead to a surge in Chinese-funded developments in the country.
