The two additional services go all the way through to Phaya Thai Station and passengers pay a flat fare of THB45. The company’s CEO, Pakorn Tangjetsakao, says the additional trains have been added to the timetable to cater to increasing demand for transfer services from airline passengers who land late in the evening.
He noted that the extra trains on the timetable were a testament to the growing popularity of the train link and marked the upcoming fifth anniversary of its launch. After it opened in 2010, the airport train service struggled to attract passengers and ran at a loss.
Passenger numbers have gradually increased and around 40,000 people now use the trains every day. Percentagewise, passenger numbers increased almost 10 per cent in 2014 when compared to 2013. The service recorded a five per cent jump in usage over the 12 months before that.
