Commenting on the visitor numbers, Siem Reap tourism office spokesperson Chhoeuy Chhorn told media sources that people from three Asian nations made up the biggest percentage of the tourists. He expounded by saying almost 350,000 people from South Korea visited.
The spokesperson continued by saying that the number of Chinese tourists came a close second at 338,000 and Japanese visitors totalled 151,000. He declined to give details as to how the US$59 million in revenue generated by ticket sales would be spent.
Angkor Wat is a 400km² complex featuring ancient Khmer temples such as its namesake, the Bayon and Banteay Srei. Foreign tourists pay US$20 for a day-pass to visit. Three-day and seven-day passes are US$40 and US$60 respectively.
