The organisers say the chance of experiencing culture and purchasing souvenirs and culinary specialities from the five different regions of Thailand has proved to be an irresistible draw. One official said the event had enticed families into coming and one of the chief delights seemed to be having photographs taken with replicas of prominent Thai monuments as background.
Another official told reporters traditional dance performances were also popular with audiences. He added that there were queues for the zone in which visitors could try their hand at old-style dances for the nominal sum of THB5.
Discover Thainess runs through until this Sunday, 18 January, and is open from 16:00 to 22:00. This festival is usually held every June, but Tourism Authority of Thailand boss Thawatchai Arunyik says it is being held earlier so that more international tourists can attend and gain insightful glimpses into national heritage.
