Bangkok stages Thai cultural extravaganza

Bangkok’s Lumpini Park is the venue for an event that will showcase Thai traditions and culture later this week. The national tourism bureau is staging Discover Thainess 2015 in the city’s central park to offer international tourists illuminating insights into the Thai way of life and the country’s rich heritage.

The governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) told media sources recently that the theme of the extravaganza was centralising the five distinct Thai regions in Lumpini Park. Thawatchai Aranyik stated that replicas of buildings from the different areas would be a highlight.

The governor continued by saying there would also be parades in which participants would don traditional dress and bear old-style tools and ornamentation. Musicians with instruments such as taphon drums and bamboo khaen pipes are all set to serenade guests.

The parade set to mark the opening ceremony of Discover Thainess will wend its way between Pathumwan and Ratchaprasong junctions prior to a grand entrance at Lumpini. This is scheduled for 18:00 on 14 January. The event will run every evening until Sunday 18 January between the hours of 16:00 and 22:00.
