Bangkok gears up for gigantic New Year show

Organisers in Bangkok are busy today putting the finishing touches to the venue for one of the biggest New Year countdown parties in Asia. The entertainment at the plaza outside CentralWorld Shopping Mall is scheduled to begin at 18.00 this evening and will run through to 01.00 tomorrow morning.

Musical artistes such as Joey Boy, Da Endorphine and Kung Worakorn will be taking to the stage at scheduled intervals in preparation for the main countdown to midnight and 2015. Colourful firework displays are on the agenda and culminate in an amazing extravaganza as the clock ushers in the new year.

This year’s CentralWorld countdown party is the tenth in succession and is on a similar scale to the legendary party staged in New York’s Times Square. The organisers say that in previous years an average of 500,000 revellers descended on CentralWorld Plaza for the celebrations.

Bangkok’s metropolitan police force has stated that thousands of officers will be on hand to maintain safety and assist with any problems. The police also operate a central command centre so that officers can be directed to any trouble spots without delay.
