Good News: Wuhan Plans to Lift Lockdown

Finally some good news amid the craziness of the COVID-19 story: the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is widely believed to be the place of origin of the current outbreak and the city hit with it the hardest, is planning to remove outbound travel restrictions effective from April 8.

Wuhan, in Hubei province, locked down on January, 23, when all public transport, including buses, railways, flights, and ferry services were suspended and the residents of Wuhan were prohibited to leave the city, is almost ready to allow transportation to resume.

During the unprecedented lockdown, 60 million people in Hubei province were locked at their homes as infections spun out of control.

Now, according to a statement posted on the provincial government’s website yesterday, people in Wuhan will be allowed to leave the city and Hubei province starting from April, 8, 2020.

Hubei has reported zero of new infections since March 19, and provided the tendency persists, there will be the easing of restrictions.

During the two months over 80,000 people were infected in China and more than 3,200 died.

While China is recovering after the outbreak, the virus is spreading out globally with other countries including Italy, the Philippines and India having begun nationwide lockdowns.
