Borobudur Temple Closed for Visitors till March 29

Indonesia's famous Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, will stay closed for tourists till the end of March. But there are some positive news about the temple, too – read on.

The whole temple has been sprayed with disinfectant this week in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the tourist attraction.

The staff of the Borobudur Conservation Agency (BKB) sprayed all the surfaces of the temple, including stupas, walls and floors, with a special disinfectant containing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, glycerol and Aqua Dest, which is safe for both humans and the ancient stones.

The stupas and handrails located in the Zone 1, which is the most visited area of the temple, were sprayed in the first turn.

From now till March 29 Borobudur temple will remain closed to the public. None of its tourism packages, including Sunrise, Sunset and Manohara Borobudur, will be available for purchase.

The BKB representative shared that they were going to conduct spraying periodically until the situation improves.

The two-week closure of the temple was imposed by the Jakarta administration. Other attractions in the area which will be out of reach during this time include the Maritime Museum in North Jakarta, Onrust Island in the Thousand Islands, Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta and Ancol Dreamland in North Jakarta. Plan your visit accordingly.
