Cambodia Bans Foreign Visitors, Cruise Ships

A series of measures to halt the spread of the Covid-19 disease have been announced by the Cambodian today.

After a new case of Covid-19 among foreigners was detected within the Kingdom, the country decided to take immediate preventive measures against the transfer of Covid-19 into Cambodia.

Effective from March, 17, the Ministry of Health bars national of Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the US from entering the Kingdom. The ban will remain in effect for 30 days or until further notice.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport prohibited the entry of all cruise ships to Cambodia, too.

Mak Sideth, the director-general of the Department of Waterway-Maritime Transport and Ports commented on the case: “With the necessity to prevent the spread of Covid-19 from passengers travelling on cruise ships, the department has decided to postpone the entry permission for passenger cruise ships to Cambodia from today until further notice."

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport closed schools in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh for vacation earlier than usually.

The Ministry of Health reports that up to nowthere have been seven positive Covid-19 cases in the country. Six of those tested positive were foreigners. There has been no fatalities.
