Tanah Lot Festival to Kick Off on Bali on March 13

Some good news from Bali where the famous Tanah Lot festival is confirmed for March 13 to 15. The biennial event will not be cancelled as many other events this spring, hurray.

Around 1,000 artists from seven Pekraman village communities in Kediri district are expected to take part in the festival.

Pura Tanah Lot temple, an important Hindu pilgrimage site and a popular tourist attraction, has seen an almost 30 percent decrease in tourist numbers since the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year. The management of Tanah Lot hopes the festival will lure more tourists to visit the temple.

This year, the festival will be held for the third time. Themed "Tirta Kamandalu", what literarily means "holy water from the bottom of the ocean that becomes the source of life," it is dedicated to Balinese mythology of which Tanah Lot has been a part of since its creation in the 16th century. It is one of the seven sea temples of Bali, each established within an eyesight of the next one.

The highlight of the festival, the Okokan art performance that will feature 1,000 dancers, will take place on the opening day of the event on March 13 at 6 pm.
