15th Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon Will Be Held as Scheduled

While more and more major international events around the SEA are being cancelled due to concerns over COVID-19 outbreak, the 15th Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon will take place as scheduled, the organiser has confirmed recently.

New registrations continue coming in and it is expected that 15,000 runners from more than 70 countries will participate in the Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon, which has been certified by IAAF Association of International Marathons and Distance Races since the event's first year, and is currently a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.

Over 80 percent of runners arrive from outside of Phuket with 20 percent of runners will travel from overseas.

The marathon is a major sporting event for Phuket. Last year alone it contributed around THB291.58 million (~USD9.26 million) to Phuket's economy.

The event's organiser said: “Our registration numbers are up on this time last year. Despite COVID19 concerns, runners are committed to taking part and we are working with our partners to ensure a safe and fun race for all. Event planning is on schedule, registrations continue to  be received and we are confident that more than 15,000 runners from around the world will take part this year.”

The event is scheduled to take place between 13-14 June 2020.
