For the first time the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) is being staged outside Clark, Pampanga, its traditional location for 22 years. This year's Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.
The main reason for changing the location of the festival is the DOT initiative to help the region recover after the Taal volcano eruption earlier this year.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Department of Touirsm of the Philippines officer-in-charge Marites Castro said: “We hope that with the success of this event, we can encourage the development of tourism establishments in Carmona, particularly hotels, which can cater to attendees of the future editions of the Flying Carnival, and other sports and leisure attractions in the area.”
The program of the festival includes hot air balloons demonstrations and flying exhibitions. The event that is already dubbed “A weekend of (almost) everything that flies” also features paragliding, kite-flying, aircraft displays, paramotor and drone racing events, and a special Night Glow show.
