Domestic Tourists to Be Cornerstone for Thailand's Tourism Industry in 2020

Thailand's leisure market makes a bet on domestic tourism as the last resort for the local tourism industry as foreign visitors arrivals shrink.

Hoteliers and restaurant operators are assuring customers about strict hygienic standards in full compliance with guidelines from the Public Health Ministry in a bid to keep visitors safe and sound.

The Association of Domestic Travel have conducted a meeting this Tuesday in Rayong to prepare tourism campaigns for Songkran to encourage locals and foreign tourists who are already in Thailand to stay longer during the holidays. Some of the measures to stimulate tourism include up to 50% discounts on hotels in urban areas and Koh Samet.

Price policy remains the most effective way to stimulate people to visit, the president of the association believes. Hence discount packages including half-price hotel rooms, lower airfares and car rental, and special discount rates for tourism attractions and restaurants will be offered.

While international visitor arrivals are most likely to hardly reach 33 million this year, some 6–7 million less than planned, the number of domestic trips is expected to remain unchanged at 172 million, 4 percent more on year-to-year bases.
