AirAsia Launches Kuala Lumpur–Ahmedabad Flights

While many airlines close the existing routes or decrease frequency on the existing ones, news of new direct air links come as a breath of fresh air.

AirAsia has announced their plans to launch a new direct route between Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Ahmedabad, the largest city and former capital of the Western Indian state of Gujarat. The maiden flight is scheduled to take place on April, 29.

The introduction of this new flight was prompted by the announcement of the Indian government late last year concerning reduction of electronic tourist visa fees for Malaysians. It is expected that now more Malaysians will travel to India following this initiative.

AirAsia X Malaysia chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said the cost for the tourist e-visa fee for Malaysians is currently at its lowest.“India has never been more affordable so there is no better time to travel. We are running some of our biggest sales yet to every India destination we fly to.”

India's first UNESCO World Heritage City, Ahmedabad was founded in the 11th century and features quite a few historical monuments including the Stepwell at Adalaj and the Rani Mosques. The Gujarati community is largely known for its hospitality.
