Universal Beijing Resort to Open in May 2021 as Scheduled

The Universal Beijing Resort is expected to open in May, 2021 as scheduled regardless the slowdown in tourism industry, the Secretary of Tongzhou District confirmed last week during the 22nd news conference of the novel coronavirus in Beijing.

Universal Beijing Resort project was announced back in 2014 and was scheduled to open in 2019. Construction began 2 years after the announcement and is currently underway.

The new resort project will be located in Beijing's Tongzhou District and will cover an area of 400 hectares including 54 hectares allocated for Universal Studios Beijing. The themed park will feature attractions and rides of Universal's biggest productions. There will be seven themed zones surrounding a lake including Waterworld, Kung Fu Panda, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minions/Despicable Me, Transformers, Hollywood and Jurassic Park. There will be two hotels within the resort project as well – The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel - Universal Beijing Resort. 

When completed, Universal Beijing Resort will become the fifth Universal Studios-branded theme park in the world, the seventh Universal-built park overall, and the third in Asia, after Universal Studios Japan located in Osaka and Universal Studios Singapore

With the total investment of 6.5 billion USD, the park aims to attract 10 million visitors.
