Zheng Zhao Junk at ICONSIAM to Tell the Story of King Taksin the Great

Bangkok's only floating museum on the Chao Phraya River has revealed a brand new attraction – a historical route which will bring visitors to the times of the liberation of Siam and King Taksin the Great.

The new travel experience is a collaboration of ICONSIAM and Right Man Co Ltd. and is the first of its kind in ASEAN. Visitors now have an opportunity to get onboard the real junk named Zheng Zhao Junk to make a historical journey to the times of the reign of King Taksin the Great. During those times, the naval fleet of similar junks modified for military operations helped the King to restore Siam’s independence after the second fall of Ayutthaya

Earlier, in the frame of the same project, the junk named Si Maha Samut was docked at ICONSIAM between November 2018 and February 2019. Opened to visitors, the exhibition on the junk was dedicated to maritime trade and diplomacy between Thonburi and foreign countries. During the four-month presentation, it received over 60,000 visitors.

This year the junk returns in grand style. Renamed into the Zheng Zhao Junk after the Chinese name of King Taksin, the junk will make visitors acquainted with the history of King Taksin’s seven-month efforts to liberate the nation from Burmese invaders.

The junk is open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 8pm at ICONSIAM pier (pier 5), ICONSIAM on Charoen Nakhon Road.
