Mussoorie and Dehradun to Be Connected by Ropeway

Mussoorie, a popular hill station in Uttarakand's Dehradun District, India, will soon get a ropeway which will connect it to the state's capital of Dehradun and is expected to become one of the longest ropeways in the world.

The new ropeway will cut travel time between Dehradun and Mussoorie to mere 16 minutes. It is expected that better accissibility of the hill station will boost tourism in the area dramatically as the starting point of the ropeway will be connected to ISBT, railway station, and the airport in Dehradun.

The ropeway project is also seen as a solution of the parking problem in Mussoorie which gets especially crucial during weekends and holiday periods. Being an environmentally friendly means of transportation, the new ropeway will improve air quality all around the hill station which suffers from air pollution at the moment.

Mussoorie ropeway will operate rain or shine beating the current issues with road conjestion during rainy or snowy weather.

The length of the ropeway will be 5.5 km. It will connect two stations only and feature 53 cabins with a seating capacity of 8 passengers each yet the total number of people who can travel by ropeway at a time is estimated as 1000-1200.
