More Intangible Cultural Heritages in Vietnam Enjoy National Recognoition

Vietnam has added 11 new items to its list of national intangible cultural heritages, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported earlier this month.

The new additions to the list of cultural items are:

1. Chu Xa Village festival (Hanoi)
2. Gau Tao festival of H’Mong ethnic people (Lai Chau)
3. Dai Bi Pagoda festival (Nam Dinh)
4. Cap Sac ritual of Dao Quan Chet ethnic people (Dien Bien)
5. Linh Quang Pagoda festival (Nam Dinh)
6. Cap Sac ritual of Dao Tien ethnic people (Phu Tho)
7. Goi Au (Lung ta) ritual of the Thai Trang ethnic group (Son La)
8. Tra On Temple festival in the Mekong Delta (Vinh Long)
9. Nguyen Tieu (Mid-First Lunar Month) festival of the Hoa ethnic people in Ho Chi Minh City
10. Drum making of Dao Do ethnic people in Sa Pa (Lao Cai)
11. Art of pattern making on costumes of H’Mong Hoa ethnic people (Son La).

The items included into the list of the recognised intangible cultural heritages fall into four categories – traditional handicrafts, traditional festivals, social practices and beliefs, and folklore knowledge.

Out of the full list of nationally recognised intangible heritage of Vietnam some entries are recognised by UNESCO, too. Currently UNESCO lists 11 intangible cultural heritages in Vietnam:

1. Nha Nhac - Vietnamese court music
2. Space of gong culture (Central Highlands)
3. Quan ho Bac Ninh folk songs
4. Ca Tru singing
5. Giong festival of Phu Dong and Soc temples (Hanoi)
6. Xoan singing (Phu Tho province)
7. Worship of Hung Kings (Phu Tho)
8. Art of Don ca tai tu music and song (Southern Vietnam)
9. Vi and Giam folk songs (Nghe Tinh)
10. Tugging rituals and games
11. Practices related to Vietnamese beliefs in the Mother Goddesses of Three Realms
