Asia's Biggest Lake Fest to Kick off March, 17 in India

The Indian state of Uttarakand will host the Tehri Lake Festival starting from March, 17 to March, 19. Asia' biggest lake festival will draw visitors from around the world. 

The festival is an annual event aimed at boosting tourism in the area and developing the lake as an international tourist spot. The lake is a result of the construction of the Tehri Dam which sits on Bhagirathi River. It is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the world.

The program of the three-day festival is being prepared by the Tehri Special Area Tourism Development Authority and the regional tourism department. Focusing primarily of adventure tourism, the event will feature a variety of activities and adventure sports including paragliding, scuba diving, canoeing, hot air ballooning, parasailing, kayaking, rock climbing, rappelling, all-terrain biking, and much more. 

To accommodate the guests, Swiss tents have been set up around the lake area.

The nearest airport to the festival is Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun, some 91 km away. The nearest railway station is located in Rishikesh, 76 km away, from where taxis and buses connect to the place. All major destinations in Utarakand state including Mussoorie, Haridwar, Devprayag, Srinagarand Uttarkashi have bus links to New Tehri.
