The photo contest was first held back in 1990 with the objective to encourage travel in Vietnam through providing glimpses of Vietnam's culture, beautiful natural attractions, heritage and local way of life. The two agencies invite amateur and professional photographers to submit their shoots that disclose Vietnam's great tourism potential and help attract more visitors to the country.
Both photographers residing in Vietnam regardless of their nationality as well as tourists who have already been to Vietnam can take part in the contest. Contestants should submit their photographs to Du lịch (Tourism) magazine before June 5.
Some of the suggested topics include natural beauty, historical sites, cultural practices and values, customs, festivals, and people of Vietnam.
The winner will be awarded a gold medal by the VAPA, as well as VND15 million (~USD650) in cash and a tour package for two. The best photos will then be exhibited at Hanoi Museum of Military History where the awards ceremony will also take place on July 9, 2020.
Each year, the contest grows bigger with more photographers sending entries to take part in the competition. The previous time the contest was held the jury had to go through over 16,000 photoshoots. The winning picture called Colours of the Sea was shot by Trần Bảo Hòa.
