Boasting balmy climate and affectionately called 'the City of Pines', Baguio enjoys great popularity among visitors, especially during summer months when the moderate temperatures bring relief from the soaring heat of the capital. For years, tourism has remained one of Baguio's main industries and the city is often featured in different lists of best destinations in Asia like TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Destinations Awards.
Earlier this year, Baguio has been named one of the UNESCO Creative Cities, but due to over-tourism the city needs urgent sustainable infrastructure rehabilitation.
Yesterday, the representatives of the three government agencies visited some of the main tourist attractions of the city including Burnham Park, Wright Park, Mines View Park and also inspected Baguio City’s sewage treatment plant and Balili River, as well as the sanitary landfill in Irisan. It is expected that the rehabilitation project will start with a facelift of the iconic Burnham Park which will cost an estimate of PHP480 million (~USD9.5 million).
