Japan's Cherry Blossom Forecast 2020 Released

The most iconic symbol of spring in Japan, its cult cherry blossoms draw hordes of tourists to the country. The Japanese weather forecasting company Nihon Kisho has just released its initial cherry blossom forecast for 2020 – time your visit accordingly to get most of the amazing sakura season.

Cherry trees in Kochi, on Japan’s Shikoku Island, will usher the blooming season in with the peak time for watching sakura blossom in the third decade of March.

Hokkaido island will be covered with pink petals later than all other part of the country – it will offer the last chance to catch the beautiful sight this spring in the very beginning of May.

This time, the sakura season is expected to arrive some three–four days earlier almost everywhere in the country due to warm and early spring predicted by the weather forecasting company. In Tokyo cherry blossoms will begin to open on March 19, a week prior to the average date for the capital, with full bloom happening the following week, on March 27.

Here is the list of expected dates of cherry blossom opening and full bloom across the country:

– Kochi: March 19–27
Fukuoka: March 20–29
Aichi: March 21–30
Hiroshima: March 22–April 1
Kyoto: March 23–April 1
