Vientiane, Luang Prabang Get More Regional Flights

Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos get more direct flights that link them with regional destinations.

On December, 22, Lucky Air, China’s low-cost carrier, launched direct flights between Kunming in China’s southern Yunnan province and both Vientiane, the Lao capital, and Luang Prabang, a historical city in northern Laos. Both routes are served twice weekly, on Wednesday and Sunday.

Earlier in December, T’way Air, a South Korean low-cost airline, announced its intention to fly between Daegu city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea and Vientiane

From April, Scoot, a Singaporean low-cost airline owned by Singapore Airlines, is going to connect Singapore to Luang Prabang and Vientiane, too.

While numbers of foreing tourists visiting Laos are lower than in the neighbouring countries, the popularity of several destinations in Laos, including both the capital and Luang Prabang, rises.

Wattay International Airport in Vientiane currently has direct air links with destinations in Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and China, the latter boasting the widest choice of destinations.

In 2019, Laos welcomed over 4.5 million international visitors, an 11 percent increase on year-to-year bases. About 1 million of all the overseas travellers were visitors from China.

According to the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos, tourist arrivals from China demonstrated the highest growth rate – 26 percent.
