It's Best Viewing Season for Plum Blossoms in Taiwan

Plum blossoms season in several popular tourist spots in Taiwan is at its peak with plum gardens in Taoyuan and Tainan covered with white blossoms resembling snow.

Jiaobanshan Residence in Taoyuan’s Fuxing District that features a plum garden has just entered the best viewing season. Plum trees usually start blossoming during the second half of December and last through January. The second week of January this year is expected to be the best time for visiting the residence for viewing white fragrant plum blossoms.

To celebrate the blooming season, the 2020 Jiaobanshan Residence Plum Blossom Festival will be held by the Taoyuan’s Scenic Area Service Agency on January 12, 18, and 19. The program of the festival will feature games, a variety of activities for kids, and food trucks.

In Taipei, the Shilin Official Residence looks terrific with deciduous cypress trees and blooming plum blossoms at their fullest. The peak blooming period will fall on the first week of January this time. The Shilin Official Residence can be visited daily between 8 am and 6 pm.

Plum trees in the Meiling Scenic Area, a popular tourist attraction in Tainan’s hilly district of Nanxi, are also in full bloom and expected to stay blooming up to mid- to late-January. The best routes to view plum trees blossoms are the four main Meiling trails – Wulong Trail (伍龍步道), Meilong Trail (梅龍步道), Meifeng Historic Trail (梅峰古道), and Guanyin Trail (觀音步道).
