Coldest Winter in Delhi Since 1901, Indian Capital Is Shivering

If you are planning to be in Delhi this winter season, pack some layers: according to the reports of the India Meteorological Department, the capital of India is going to have its coldest winter since 1901.

Temperatures in Delhi and the surrounding region dropped dramatically to as low as 2.6 degree Celsius before the new year's night beating even Shimla in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, where the temperature was 3 degree Celsius.

The winter chill in the Indian capital is accompanied with thick fog, hindering normal cirvculation of vehicles in the city.

According to the forecasts, it is going to be the coldest winter for Delhi since 1901. The plummeting mercury has already beaten the previous 118-year old record.

Such low temperatures will stay at least till January, 3. This winter, Delhi has already had 11 very cold days, more than in the last 22 years.

The ongoing cold wave also resulted in deterioration of the air quality which has been quite poor in Delhi recently. Currently, AQI (the Air Quality Index) reads as “very poor” at 365. It is very advisable to wear a mask with a proper filter to avoid respiratory problems.
