Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province, China, will be linked with Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand.
The maiden flight is scheduled for December, 26. The route will be served three times a week by an Airbus A320 aircraft. Flights from Guangzhou will leave the Baiyun International Airport at 7.30 pm. In the opposite direction, flights will take off from Mae Fah Luang International Airport in Chiang Rai at 9.50 pm. Flight time is about 2h20m in each direction. Time difference between Guangzhou and Chiang Rai is one hour, China being ahead of Thailand.
It is the first flight between the two destinations. Currently the only option to travel from Guangzhou to Chiang Rai is via connecting flights. Yet Sichuan Airlines already flies to Chiang Rai from their hub in Chengdu.
Sichuan Airlines is one of the three Chinese airlines – two other being China Eastern Airlines based in Shanghai and Ruili Airlines, a low cost carrier based in Kunming – operating flights to Chiang Rai in Thailand.

Sichuan Airlines, the largest airline in western China, based in Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, has announced the launch of a direct flight between Guangzhou and Chiang Rai.
