Located in the Mandalay region, the town of Pyin Oo Lwin sits at an average elevation of about 1,000 metres above the sea level and boasts balmy climate that allows to cultivate there flowers from cooler regions. The annual flower feastival is one of the main tourist events in Pyin Oo Lwin's festival calendar, drawing hordes of visitors to the town. The National Kandawgyi Garden will be the main stage of the festival.
Besides locally grown Myanmar flowers, flowers from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Italy will be showcased. The Netherlands Flower Culture group will bring famous Dutch tulips, the UK Flower Culture group will display roses, and the Italy Flower Culture group will show lilies. Myanmar will be represented by the Amazing Sunflower Maze.
Floral displays will consist of about 370,000 flowers including 60,000 sunflowers, 65,000 tulips, 90,000 roses and 9000 lilies. Dutch flower growers help with organizing the floral expositions. Besides, China, Thailand and Myanmar will each present 30 local species of flowers.
Annual Pyin Oo Lwin Flower Festival to Kick Off on December 15
