Mumbai Central Gets Certified as Eat Right Station

Eat Right India movement, an initiative launched by the Indian Railways in 2018, is gaining momentum. In the frame of the initiative, the Mumbai Central railway station, a major railway station on the Western line, has got certified as India’s first Eat Right Station.

Mumbai Central has received a four stars rating from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This rating actually confirms the station offers healthy and safe food to the passengers that meets FSSAI standards and requirements.

Compliance of food served at Mumbai Central to food safety norms and hygiene was avaluated as well as availability of healthy diet, food handling at preparation, transhipment and retail/serving point, food waste management, promotion of local and seasonal food and creating awareness on food safety and healthy diet.

Food services providers at the station have been trained to comply with the requirements and all catering establishments at the station have been checked, certified and rated.

Designed by a British architect, Mumbai Central Station was opened in 1930. Formerly known as Bombay Central, the railway station serves as a major stop for both local and inter-city/express trains on the Western line.
