The rating analyses international arrivals over the current year (2019). Only those overseas visitors who stay longer than 24 hours and less than a year in each particular city are counted. 400 cities worldwide were analysed.
According to the report, Hong Kong is going to hold on to its status as the world's most popular city with international visitors in 2019 with 26.7 million tourist arrivals. Even months of political unrest that resulted in a considerable drop in tourist numbers did not manage to deprive Hong Kong of its status.
Bangkok (25.8 million) is likely to come second with Macau (20.6 million) and Singapore (19.8 million) following.
London made it up to the fifth place with 19.6 million with Paris close by on the 6th line with 19.1 million.
Number 7 is Dubai (6.3 million), number 8 – Delhi (15.8 million), number 9 – Istanbul (14.7 million). Kuala Lumpur closes the Big-10 with 14.7 million visitors.
No room for New York among the top-10 city destinations: last year it was the 8th, and this time it comes only the 11th.
The rating clearly shows the growing competition between Asian cities and the rest of the world which the former look to handle quite well. Many Americal and European cities slip in the recent years from their higher position yielding to their Asian counterparts that are gaining popularity.
