French Puy du Fou Show to Open in China by Great Wall

Puy du Fou, a historical theme park from France famous for its spectacular historical and cultural shows, as part of its international expansion will build a theme park at the foot of the Great Wall in China by 2022.

Puy du Fou in China is scheduled to open in 2022 at Qinhuangdao right by the Great Wall. The site will feature a spectacular night show, a themed hotel, restaurant and period village. The estimated cost of the project is Euro 230 million.

Puy du Fou already opened two historical theme parks in Spain and is planning to create 8 shows and 5 themed hotels in France and Spain plus at least two theme parks elsewhere in the world by 2030. According to Puy du Fou officials, they are eyeing China as a great destination for construction of several theme parks.

De Villiers, president of Puy du Fou explains the attraction of China: “International expansion means we can grow without becoming too fat. If we just grew in France, maybe the park would lose the charm and we would loose the feeling of being human beings. China is so big that we can create several parks and shows.

“There are a lot of entertainment parks in China, but there are a lot of fake things; and they know that. Localisation will be very important to what we do. This is a country with 5,000 years of history, it is so rich with stories and so epic.”
