Public Transport in KL Cheapest in the Region

Survey says that Kuala Lumpur boasts the cheapest public transport in the region offering a much more budget-friendly way to explore the city by bus or rail compared to Singapore, Bangkok or Phuket.

An average ticket in Kuala Lumpur costs about MYR3.00, what equals USD0.72. A single short ride in Kuala Lumpur costs even less – MYR0.95/USD0.23. For longer trips be prepared to shell out up to MYR5.10/USD1.22. For many tourists, transportation expenses in destination cities and countries remain the major concern. No wonder that international visitors name affordability of public transportation in Kuala Lumpur among the most attractive features of Malaysia's capital.

Kuala Lumpur's neighbours in this respect cannot beat Malaysia. An average ticket cost in Singapore is estimated as USD1.04, in Bangkok – USD1.05 and in Phuket – USD1.01.

Globally, in tourist cities visitors normally spend about USD2.20 per ride, though some destinations are much more expensive. These include Venice where a single ride on a vaporetto boat costs on average USD8.40. Copenhagen was found to offer the most expensive one-way tickets for public transport rides (up to USD15.23). Among the cheapest global destinations Cairo, Egypt, and Buenos Aires, Argentina were named. In both cities USD0.12 buy you a city ride.
