Vietnam's The Quintessence of Tonkin Show Receives Special Prize at The Guide Awards 2019

Hanoi's outdoor spectacle The Quintessence of Tonkin, or Tinh Hoa Bắc Bộ, has recently received a special prize at The Guide Awards 2019.

250 actors participate in the performance out of whom 150 are local farmers who live in the area. The plot of the spectacle is based on daily activities in rural Vietnam showcasing the agricultural culture and traditions characteristic to the north of the country, especially along the Red River Delta. A Tuần Châu Hanoi JSC production, the spectacle runs in an outdoor venue in the western outskirts of Hanoi.

The Quintessence of Tonkin blends skillful performers, a mermerising set, delightful water puppetry, a stunning light show, an evocative soundtrack and the Thay Mountain into a breathtaking open air spectacle that is both emotive and uplifting.

The prize awarded to the spectacle honours the role of the farmers as “exceptional cultural and tourism ambassadors”.

Other national and international awards received by the show include two Vietnamese records for the performance show with biggest water stage in Vietnam (4,300 sq.m) and the largest number of peasant actors (150).

The show was launched two years ago and since then it was viewed by over 80,000 visitors including 50,000 overseas visitors. CNN included the spectacle into their list of must-do things in Hanoi.
