Festivals to Celebrate End of Buddhist Lent to Hit Thailand in October

Thailand is preparing to celebrate the end of Buddhist Lent, Wan Ok Phansa, with a batch of colourful festivals which will take place across the country.

Wan Ok Phansa falls on October, 13 this year and the main celebrations are scheduled around this date.

In Nong Khai, the most mysterious of all the Wan Ok Phansa festivals will take place on October, 13. Naga Fireball festival attracts visitors to the banks of Mekong to watch the mystic fireballs appearing from the depth of the waters after the dark falls.

Sakon Nakhon hosts its annual Wax Castle Festival and procession between October 11–13. It will feature amazing wax castles.

Nakhon Phanom will draw crowds on October, 13 for the famous illuminated boat procession on the Mekong river.

Chonburi will hold their traditional Buffalo Races on October, 12 – this festival has an over 140-year-long history.

Rob Bua Festival in Samut Prakan is a one-of-a-kind ancient Buddhist tradition when the local people throw lotus flowers into the vessel carrying the Buddhist image as it moves along a canal as a sign of respect. It will be celebrated on October 12.

Tak Bat Thewo Festival in Uthai Thani is planned for October 14. 500 monks will descend the steps from Khao Sakae Krang – it is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful festivals in Thailand.
