The first destination to be served from Yogyakarta's new international airport (YIA) is Tarakan in North Kalimantan. Lion Air becomes the first airline that connects these two destinations and introduces daily service. Tarakan-bound flights will depart YIA at 6 am. The return flights will leave Kalimantan for Java also in the morning at 9.50 am. Flight time in either direction is about 2 hours 10 minutes, time difference is one hour – Tarakan being ahead of Yogyakarta.
An island city of Tarakan sits just across the border from Malaysia's Sabah state. It is often used as a visa-free border crossing between Indonesia and Malaysian town of Tawau.
The second destination is Pontianak in Kubu Raya regency, West Kalimantan. Flights for Supadio International Airport that serves Pontianak will take off at 11.40 am; the return flights are scheduled to leave for Yogyakarta at 2 pm. Flight time is one hour 40 minutes. Both Yogyakarta and Supadio sit in the same time zone.
