Chengdu–Guiyang High-Speed Railway Fully Operational by End of 2019

Track-laying works in the frame of Chengdu-Guiyang high-speed railway project were finally completed earlier this month. Currently some sections of the railway, mostly in Sichuan province, are already in use. The whole railway line is expected to become fully operational by the end of this year.

Construction of Chengdu-Guiyang Railway started back in 2013. The total of 78 billion yuan (USD11 million) was invested into construction. The 632 km long railway runs through mountainous terrain and will allow trains to travel at the designed speed of 250 km/h. It has already been dubbed 'the world's first high-speed railway in mountains'. The railway line features a lot of bridges and tunnels. There is even a 370-km long section that on 85 percent relies on bridges and tunnels.

The new high-speed railway between Chengdu and Guiyang will ease access to a number of tourist attractions including Huangguoshu Waterfall, Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha. It will also cut travel time between its terminuses in the capitals of Sichuan and Guizhou provinces to mere three hours.

Currently, the total length of high-speed railway track in Guizhou’ province has reached 1,127 km. It also includes the high-speed railway line sections to Chongqing, is a major city in southwest China, and Kunming, in Yunnan province. In 2019 Guizhou targets to put into operation its high-speed railway between Guiyang and Chengdu as well as between Anshun and Liupanshui, both within Guizhou province. It will extend the total mileage of the high-speed railway network in Guizhou to 1,650 kilometres.
