Vientiane Times quote that the project supported by the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) will enable visitors to use the internet at some of the most popular tourist locations around the city including Wattay International Airport; Nam Phou Fountain, a legacy of the historic French presence in Laos; and Haw Phra Kaew, a former royal temple in Vientiane which now houses a museum of religious art.
The free Wi-Fi project is part of Laos’s strategy to keep abreast of the current digital trend. It will also help promote wider access to information and enhance overall travel experience of visitors in the capital of Laos.
Last year, 4.1 million foreign tourists visited Laos, showing an 8.2 percent growth over the figures of the previous year. In 2018, tourism generated revenue exceeded USD 755 million. A 10 percent increase in tourist arrivals in predicted for 2019 with visitor number estimated as 4.5 million people.
