China Railway Corporation Reports 735M Railway Trips This Summer

During this summer travel rush a total of 735 million railway trips were made in China, according to the China Railway Corporation (CRC).

It is 10.4 percent more than in summer 2018. The national railway operator also reports that August, 24, saw the highest number of railway trips ever recorded in the country – some 13.69 million passenger trips.

The summer travel rush in China normally lasts two month – July and August. It is the time when college students travel between universities and their hometowns during their summer holidays. Summer is also the most popular season for travelling across the country for tourism and leisure.

China Railway Corporation is a a state-owned sole proprietorship enterprise that undertakes railway passenger and cargo transportation services in the People's Republic of China. Rail is one of the principal means of passenger transport in China with rail network covering the whole country. The average length of a railway trip is about 500 km showing that rail is the preferred means of transportation for travelling long distances. The overall rail track length in China exceeds 130,000 km.
