Kuala Lumpur Hosts International Arts Festival

Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival kicked off on September 1 and will last through October with a series of activities held in different venues across the city – from the streets in the centre of KL to the Intermark, Malaysian Tourism Centre, to the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) and more.

It is the fifth edition of the festival that features dance, performing arts, music, pop-up art spaces and literature, with a mix of local and international content.

Five highlights of the program include:

1. Buka Langkah: Inner Resonance at DPAC, Petaling Jaya, Sept 7 and 8 – the first major concert series of the Kuala lumpur-based gamelan orchestra Gangsapura. A great chance to appreciate traditional Malay gamelan.

2. Kelunan Featuring Lan E Tuyang at DPAC, Petaling Jaya, Sept 6 and 8
Poetic singing and storytelling, dances and traditional music are all combined in this joint Kayan and Kenyah community-based show.

3. Taksu at KLPac, Oct 4-6
Drums! Hands Percussion ensemble will present a combined Chinese drums with Malay/Balinese gamelan show.

4. Teater Uda Dan Dara at Padang Merbok, Jalan Parlimen, KL, Oct 18 and 19
Classic Malay theatre under the moonlight with an outdoor setting and free admission.

5. Awang Batil: Hikayat Cendawan Putih (Legend Of The White Mushroom) at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC), KL, Oct 25 and 26
Traditional Malay storytelling: folk tales with comedic elements and masks.
