According to the ministry, an aviation association will facilitate dialogue and interraction among all operators and service providers in the tourism industry providing them a secure platform for finding solutions to the challenges the sector faces. The association will contribute to smooth development of the tourist industry in the country, too.
The initiative of the Ministry of Tourism got warm support from the operators with SSCA expressing their interest in the possibile forming of the association.
Currently, there are7 airlines operating in the country – Bassaka Air, Bayon Airlines, Cambodia Airways, Cambodia Angkor Air, JC International Airlines, Lanmei Airlines, Sky Angkor Airlines – and three international airports in Cambodia – Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. According to SSCA, during the first 6 months of 2019 they handled 29,705 flights. Yet flight delays and cancellations remain an acute problem for all the three airports. If created, the new association will look into these problems hopefully suggesting ways for improvement.
