Lembata Island to Host Three Mountains Festival

After last year's successful debut, Tiga Gunung Festival (Three Mountains Festival)  will return to Lambata Regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province of Indonesia. The second edition of the festival will take place from August 26 to 31.

The three mountains the festival is dedicated to are Ile Batutara, Ile Lewotolok and Ile Werung, all located on Lambata island. All the three are picturesque and boast several unique features.

Mount Ile Batutara erupts every 20 minutes with eruptions observable from 50 meters away.

The peak of Mt. Ile Lewotolok is occupied by a wide white sandy flat crater that can serve as a soccer field and there is a traditional house for unique cultural ceremonies on the slopes of the mountain.

Mt. Ile Werung is home to a large colony of swifts with an abundance of swifts nests found in it rambling cave leading to a beach; besides, the mountain offers the best panorama of the island.

The festival celebrates Lambata's mighty mountains through a variety of activities and cultural performances featured in its program including a trekking competition to Mt. Ile Lewotolok and Mt. Ile Werung, a traditional fist fight attraction known as hadok, an international paragliding festival, dance and sole-oha singing festivals, a Lembata colossal dance attraction, handicraft and Lembata culinary exhibitions and ethnic performances.

The island is best reached from the capital of East Flores, Larantuka either by ferry or a speedboat.
