Tejas Express will become the first private train to serve the route between Delhi and Lucknow. The initiative was proposed by the IRCTC, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that will handle the catering, online ticketing operations and on-board housekeeping once the train starts operation.
Earlier it became known that the Indian Railways were eyeing the possibility to allow private operators to run trains on specific routes in order to provide access to a higher level of service for global travellers. The Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express is the first train that was chosen to be a part of this program.
The new Tejas Express is scheduled to depart from Lucknow at 6.50 am and arrive to Delhi at 1.35 pm. In the opposite direction, the departure time from Delhi is 3.35 pm, and arrival to Lucknow – 10.05 pm the same day. Tejas Express will run five days a week except Sunday and Thursday.
The new train is equipped will seating class cars and offers air-conditioned compartments, personalised infotainment screens, personalised reading lights, attendant call buttons, foot-rest in Executive Class, automatic sliding doors and modular bio-toilets. It is a modernised version of the Shatabdi Express that enjoys great popularity with travellers.
