The cut-off check-in time for passengers boarding domestic flights has also been increased by 10 minutes and is now 40 minutes. Final boarding times for both domestic and international services is 15 minutes before flights are scheduled to depart.
A notice on the Vietnamese national carrier’s website stated that the new cut-off times were scheduled to come into effect on 1 December and that passengers booked on flights should adjust their schedules accordingly. The airline stated it was complying with a Transport Ministry order issued on 29 August 2014 in changing the final check-in and boarding times.
The airline said it was the responsibility of passengers to allow themselves enough time to catch their flights. It also said the deadlines applied to Vietnamese airports and that passengers boarding Vietnam Airlines’ flights in other countries were subject to the regulations imposed there.
The Transport Ministry’s order is supposed to apply to all airlines with flights departing from airports in Vietnam. Workers at airports in the country say that Vietnam Airlines is the only airline that has so far obeyed the ruling and other airlines are still operating on the old cut-off times.
