While the tourism industry in Hainan is feeling better than ever it brings its inevitable evils to the island. Hainan's 5,000+ hotels of over 100 international hotel brands or approximately 300,000 rooms can daily accommodate 500,000 guests. Every day, they generate tons of plastic waste.
Following the suit of hotels in Shanghai, no more disposable toiletries like nail files, razors, shoe polishers, moisturizers, and envelopes, sewing bags, disposable slippers, and cotton swabs will be provided in Hainan's hotel rooms by default. Guests, however, can request the items they need at the reception – for a time being, they will be still provided free of charge.
In a bid to promote more sustainable tourism, the Hainan Tourist Hotels Association will put notice in hotels encouraging tourists to take part in this meaningful campaign.
Hainan is the go-to destination for those who want a slow, relaxing tropical paradise in which to unwind. It’s world famous beaches are in pristine condition, making it an ideal destination for beach goers, water sports enthusiasts and all lovers of seafood.
