Applications can be submitted online through the official website laoevisa.gov.la.
The service started functioning in its trial version. It allows to apply for 30 days tourists e-visas only. The whole process takes up to three working days. At the initial stage e-visas will be accepted at two international entry points – Wattay International Airport serving Vientiane and at Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge 1 that connects the Thai province of Nong Khai with Vientiane.
To obtain an e-visa, it is necessary:
To fill in the online application form and upload the documents required for tourists visa.
To pay the visa fee online. The following methods of payment are accepted: VISA, MasterCard, JCB and UnionPay.
After e-visa application is approved, the applicant is informed via email provided during registration. The e-visa Approval Letter should be downloaded to be later produced at the border.
Laos hopes introduction of e-visas will facilitate entry for tourists and attract more travellers to the country. The target set for this year is 4.5 million tourists – a 8.2 percent increase compared to 2018's results when 4.1 million foreign travellers entered the country.
